Four Years of Marama Alliance UK

Four years ago, on July 13th, 2019, Marama Alliance UK was born—a powerful support network for Fijian women in the United Kingdom; emerging from 2 pivotal meetings in 2017, by the Fiji High Commission, and 2018 by Communities Fiji Britain

4 Years of Marama Alliance UK: About Us

It was the culmination of the dream of several visionary Fijian women who identified the need for a support network for Fijian women in the United Kingdom.

Today, Marama Alliance stands as a strong community voluntary organisation, guided by an operational committee, working groups, and supported by a board of trustees.

Over the years, the committee has led impactful projects in line with the Alliance's mission, including mobilising Fijian women's participation, advocating for improved access to information and services, and promoting the preservation of Fijian culture and language.

Our past projects covered mentoring, professional development, nature appreciation, and spiritual growth. Ongoing projects include immigration information sessions, financial literacy, domestic violence awareness, and more.

As we continue this journey, Marama Alliance UK remains committed to empowering Fijian women, transforming lives, and shaping a brighter future.

Speaking of ‘future’, this year on our fourth birthday, we are so excited to be launching our new brand that represents diverse Fijian women in the UK. This is clearly represented by the 3 Marama’s within our new logo, each wearing different hairstyles.

The masi that surrounds them contains arrows that symbolise the way forward, three strokes that represent strength in our community and the tekiteki symbolising our island heritage.

The pink tekiteki on the three Fijian women provides consistency with the previous logo we had and embodies the elegance of our Fijian women.

It’s important that who we are, the work we do and the messages we promote shine through our brand.

We are celebrating our four years with four hikes around the UK - Slieve Donard, Ben Nevis, Round Howe Nature Trail and Snowdon.

If you’d like to join us or contribute £4 to this special occasion, you can do so via the information here: Help Us Raise Funds for Fijian families in the UK

We would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere appreciation to the lovely Alexandra Gavidi for working with us on this special project that paves the way for the future of our brand. Alex is a talented graphic designer, based in Fiji, who understood exactly what we were looking for in our new brand elements and helped bring all our concepts to life. You can follow her amazing work on Instagram & Facebook: @alexhandsdraw

Finally, vinaka vakalevu to all our Maramas in the UK and their families, for the continued support and friendships over the past four years. Here’s to many more!
